We stayed in site 71 in March. About 1/2 of the sites were flooded so keep that in mind for the winter months. The bathrooms were really clean, and there were multiple. The fire rings were perfect for s'mores or even a cooking whole meal. We did not know this was a common campground for ATVs. We were looking for a quiet coastal camp, but the ATVs ended up not being an issue. Everyone was respectful of quiet hours and was safe driving around the camp. If you're into ATVs definitely a great spot. There was also personnel there 24/7. When a camper left a huge fire unattended, they stopped by not even a few minutes later to contain it. Also the direct access to the beach was awesome. Sites were only $25 a night and discounts for pass holders were offered (50% off) Highly recommend.
Loved camping here!!! We had a blast! The day use area has a Big Sandy Beach that is walking distance from the camp grounds. They have water spigots throughout which made it super helpful to wash the sand off. The campsites were nice and big with nice fire pits. it is right next to the sand dunes so if you have quads or ATVs this is a perfect place to go. Definitely planning to go back and Would definitely recommend to others
Don’t stay here unless you have an ATV! We do not and it was very unpleasant. Very noisy place with vehicles driving around all times of the day and night, overcrowded campsites, lack of privacy and adequate facilities. The one redeeming quality and to escape the madness was the beach and access to a bay for walking, swimming and kayaking.
Laid back campground. Easy walk to salt lake. Easy drive in. Our campground was sand and my son loved it. Cement picnic tables. There was a lot of little trash at our site when we arrived but the Easy access to ocean and lake made up for that. Cute ground squirrels and birds. Glad it had a separate area for just beach people. It was cool to see the crabs in the water. Most atv people were really chill and went straight to atv area but one group was endlessly reving in the campground. Very annoying. 5 miles from Cape Kiwanda (almost thought I was in California) which was absolutely gorgeous and surrounded by expensive and delicious restaurants. Bring all groceries before you arrive.
The campground has a nice location. But at the arriving, we were missing out the important information like how we check in, which place is empty, which places are dedicated for what. So we just went to one and hoped it was fine.
There is also a lot of noice from the quads driving arround the whole day. But in the night, it was quite silent.
One of our favorite places to camp and ride the dunes! We've been camping and riding here for years...It's fun to meet up with other enthusiasts and have fun. BUT...
If you're not an ATV fan don't camp here!!
We stayed in Sandbeach CG in mid-August 2023, site 61. When we arrived, there was microtrash all over our site, cigarette butts, bottle caps, plastic bags, kids' toys, etc. The picnic table had a huge sand pile on it and on the seats. The bathrooms were dirty and their signs had huge spitwads stuck to them. The sink, hand dryer and drinking fountain were all visibly broken and non-functioning. This place is like staying in a run down trailer park where everyone has a dune buggy (in what would otherwise be a gorgeous setting). Don't go unless you're into that kind of thing.
If you’re into riding ATV, off road vehicles or dirt bikes, then this is the place to be.
This could be a good place to stay…but there are drawbacks.
Many sites are left dirty, in the 3 days we were there, the 2 bathrooms we used had never been cleaned.
While a ranger does drive around, they don’t appear to do anything other than that. And that includes enforcing any of the rules. Just a few examples, only 2 vehicles per site, but there were several sites that had up to 6 vehicles and multiple tents, if a site was empty but reserved , people would just pull in, set up and use it a day use site. The campground speed limit is just a suggestion. ATVs/off road vehicles went through occupied campsites constantly. There is a supposed curfew between midnight and 6am for running off road, but people apparently miss that sign.
